asthma, who attended for the first time to Allergy Department and collected data on clinical history, respiratory function and allergic sensitization. Asthma severity was classified using the GINA guide. We integreted the data into regression models to identify allergen sensitization most strongly associated with asthma severity. Results: We included 260 children with ages ranging from 3 to 18 years old (mean 11.5 6 2.85). Male/female ratio: 1.4:1. 72.3% had mild asthma; 23.8% moderate asthma and 3.8% severe asthma. Skin prick testing with aeroallergens was performed. Most of the children were sensitized to at least one aeroallergen (89.6%). Male gender and the number of positive skin tests correlated to asthma severity. Among allergic children 72.1% had more than one allergic disease. Total serum IgE did not correlate with the number of sensitizing aeroallergens, neither with asthma severity. Dust mite was the most frequent sensitization. Cat and molds were associated with a greater risk of having moderate and severe asthma. We found a progressive sensitization with age. Conclusions: Sensitization to some perennial indoor allergens, particularly cat and molds, were strongly associated with asthma severity.

Association of HLA-Class II and IgE Serum Levels in Pediatric Asthma
Background: Pediatric bronchial asthma is associated with considerable morbidity. The study was carried out to examine the association of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)- Class II with the disease as we found no similar study on Asian Indian population. Objective: To define the HLA-Class II antigens in Asian Indian pediatric patients with asthma. Methods: A total of 103 children with asthma and 1...
متن کاملHuman platelet antigen polymorphism in bronchial asthma
Background: Asthma is recognized as a common cause of disability, of great economic cost, and of preventable deaths. In this study we aimed to test our hypothesis to evaluate the relationship between the Human Platelet Antigen-1(HPA-1) polymorphism and bronchial asthma and its severity, which would suggest genetic variances that may be responsible for expression or activation of these receptors...
متن کاملA Study on Clinical Efficacy of Lepidium Sativum Seeds in Treatment of Bronchial Asthma
The present investigation was carried out to determine the efficacy and safety of Lepidium sativum (L. sativum) (Garden Cress, Fam: Cruciferae) in patients of bronchial asthma. L. sativum seed powder was given at a dose of 1 gm thrice a day orally to 30 patients of either sex in the range of 15-80 years with mild to moderate bronchial asthma without any concurrent medication. The respiratory fu...
متن کاملDetermination the Role of Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1(ESM-1) in Childhood Bronchial Asthma
Background Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1 (ESM-1) is a 50 kDa soluble proteoglycan that is produced mainly the vascular endothelial cells of the kidney and lung. It is produced by the effects of proangiogenic and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and it indicates activation and dysfunction of the vascular endothelium. We aimed to detect the role of ESM-1 in childre...
متن کاملAssociation between bread baking in wood tenor ovens and incidence and control of bronchial asthma in Ardabil, Iran, in 2013
Background: Asthma is a chronic multifactorial disease with a high prevalence. Among asthma risk factors, the effect of baking in wood tenor ovens (traditional form of baking) on bronchial asthma is still debated. The aim of this study was to determine the association between baking in wood tenor ovens and incidence and control of bronchial asthma. Materials and Methods: This descriptive stu...
